Petr Janout received his master diploma in 2013 from Communications, Multimedia, and Electronics program at Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FEE), Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague. His Ph.D. study was focused on applied optics, image processing and modeling of space-variant optical systems. In 2018, he defended his doctoral thesis under the title “Modeling of Space Variant Optical systems.

During the Ph.D. study, Petr Janout was involved as a team member in several research and industry projects, such as ESA projects DEMON, IAPHETOS, and THESIS. He actively participated in the project of GRBspec database of gamma-ray flashes with Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía - CSIC, Spain. He also participated in Czech funded projects MAIA (Meteor Automatic Imager and Analyzer) and WILLIAM (all-sky meteorology camera).

Currently, Petr works on projects ESA projects IAPHETOS2 and CALIOPE devoted to the application of anisotropic optical material.
