Image processing plays an important role in the modern astronomy. In the cooperation with Astronomical institute of the Academy of Sciences, we are involved in a project of the European Space Agency (ESA) called INTEGRAL (International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory). Within the MAIA project, we study meteor showers by using a double station video observation.
We are active in the field of applied image photonics. Among others, we currently participate in the European Space Agency (ESA) project DEMON (BBT Materials Processing) focused on the optical quality evaluation techniques for calomel (mercurous chloride) single crystals.
High perceived quality is one of the goals when developing new multimedia systems. We participate in the European scientific program Qualinet and investigate objective metrics for multimedia assessment. Subjective quality – as the ultimate evaluation measure of audio and video – requires hearing modeling as well as a study of psychovisual and psychoacoustic processes.
The investigation of subcellular structures requires images with a high resolution beyond the diffraction limit. The final image in super-resolution microscopy is a result of a highly demanding image processing effort. Together with our partners, we perform research in the field of structured illumination microscopy and super-resolution optical fluctuation imaging.
Digital loudspeaker is a problem that challenges many in the electroacoustic domain. Direct digital-to-analog conversion, which is performed in the air and not in the electric circuit opens many possibilities yet introduces some problems to be solved. Solutions are expected mainly in special applications including directivity, frequency or dimensional optimization.
